Cookie Policy
Last updated: 5 July 2026
This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on socialmate.app. The SocialMate desktop application itself uses no tracking cookies — it runs on your own machine and keeps your data local.
1. Your choice comes first
For visitors in regions that require consent (such as the EU, EEA, and UK), analytics and advertising cookies are blocked by default until you accept them. We implement Google Consent Mode v2: a default state of “denied” is set before any analytics or advertising tag loads, and our cookie banner flips it to “granted” only if you choose Accept. You can decline and still use the whole site.
2. Essential cookies (always on)
- sm_consent — a first-party cookie that remembers your cookie choice (granted or denied) so we don’t ask again on every page. It lasts about six months.
- WordPress session and login cookies — set only if you sign in to your account, to keep you logged in and secure your session.
These are strictly necessary for the site to function and do not require consent.
3. Analytics & advertising cookies (consent-gated)
When you accept, the following may set cookies to help us understand what works and reach people who might like SocialMate:
- Google Analytics 4 — anonymous, aggregate usage measurement (which pages are visited, where visitors come from).
- Google Ads — measuring the effectiveness of our advertising.
- Meta Pixel — measuring ad effectiveness and reaching relevant audiences. It is signalled to grant or revoke together with your consent choice.
If you decline, these tags are held in a “denied” state and do not store or read these cookies.
4. Changing your mind
You can withdraw or change consent at any time by clearing the sm_consent cookie in your browser (or clearing site data for socialmate.app), which brings the banner back on your next visit. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
5. More about your data
